Once a busy railroad facility, the Jackson Street Shops include a 1906 brick roundhouse, a powerhouse, and various other structures serving the Great Northern Railroad. MacDonald & Mack has worked on several projects at the site, including restoration and rehabilitation of the roundhouse into a working shop and interactive museum for the Minnesota Transportation Museum. Modifications necessary before the museum opened to the public included an improved electrical and fire suppression system, provisions for accessibility, restroom upgrades and additions, space planning for exhibits, and the installation of a million-dollar turntable and new track doors to improve railroad operations.
