SOUTH OMAHA UNION STOCKYARDS

South Omaha Union Stockyards

Omaha, Nebraska

The Omaha Union Stockyards were established in 1884, and served as an overnight way station for livestock before they were sold for slaughter during daily auctions. In 1955, the Omaha Stockyards were recognized as the “World’s Largest Stockyards.” During the 1970s and 1980s, however, fewer livestock were delivered to the facility and its prominence decreased. The last livestock passed through the chutes in 1999.
