MacDonald & Mack Architects has specialized in the preservation, restoration, and adaptive use of existing properties since its inception in 1976. In addition to typical architectural services we frequently prepare historic structures reports, building condition surveys, feasibility studies, preservation master plans, and provide design services respectful of original fabric and architectural style. Our projects are concentrated in the Upper Midwest, but have been located as far south as Savannah, Georgia, and as far west as Palm Springs, California. 

Currently, the firm consists of three principals, four technical staff, and an office manager. The small size of the firm ensures that all work is performed by or under the direct supervision of one of the principals. This, in turn, guarantees that our projects meet the highest quality standards. All three principals are registered architects and meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Historic Architecture. The firm and its members have been recognized for the quality of their work through a variety of national and local awards.

Our staff possesses broad knowledge of historic building materials, techniques and styles. We have a wide range of experience including masonry restoration, art glass and mural conservation, epoxy consolidation of wood structures, mechanical systems upgrading, and window and roof replacement. We have brought these skills to a variety of buildings that have ranged from the early 1800s to today, and have included private homes, museums, commercial buildings, courthouses, churches, civic buildings, and schools..
